Thank you to all our supporters

We achieved some great things in 2022 thanks to our brilliant supporters!

We’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of our supporters, partners and volunteers for their ongoing support this year.

Your continued support means we are able to be there for even more survivors of rape and sexual abuse across Surrey through our helpline, counselling and Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) services.

2022 was also our 30th year! We were established in 1992 when staff at the local sexual health clinic identified the need for a specialist service to support survivors of rape and sexual abuse. To mark our birthday, we established our 30 for 30 challenge where supporters were asked to do 30 things with the aim of raising £30. It’s not too late if you’d like to get involved with the challenge over Christmas and help raise money towards our vital work!

Some of our key achievements in 2022 include:

  • Taking on another ISVA to enable us to support more survivors
  • Our 30th birthday Rock Choir event in March, with three fantastic performances in Guildford, which raised £1,000
  • Securing funding to purchase new furniture for our offices, giving us a comfortable, professional space for clients and meetings.
  • Our incredible London Marathon runner, Lauren, who has raised over £5,000 for our work
  • All the fabulous supporters who took on events for RASASC from Donna who climbed Ben Nevis, to our team of five runners in The Big Half who, between them, raised over £2,000.
  • Launching our new and updated website, making it easier for clients and survivors to find the information and support they need
  • Engaging with the local community, and delivering over 35 talks to both students and staff in Surrey schools and colleges on a range of topics including consent and sexual harassment

None of this would be possible without your support, so thank you

We’re pleased with the news that children who have experienced child sexual abuse and exploitation are now to be considered in the new Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy, as announced by MP Jess Phillips. The new VAWG strategy was due to be published in the summer, but has now been pushed back towards the end of 2025. We will have to wait until the final strategy is released to see the impact it will have for those concerned. RASASC was part of a large contingent of signatories on an open letter to the Home Secretary, requesting that victims of child sexual abuse and exploitation be included within the VAWG strategy. We are delighted that this action has had a positive impact. Following several delays and a degree of mystery surrounding what will be in the final version, we sincerely hope that the completed VAWG strategy has heeded the advice and recommendations from experts, to deliver an effective and fully resourced plan of action.
