Alex takes on the Camino de Santiago
Supporter Alex is taking on the impressive challenge of walking 275km of the Camino de Santiago in support of RASASC. We caught up with her to find out why she’s taking on such an incredible challenge.

Why are you taking on this challenge for RASASC?
“As soon as I heard about the Camino I knew I wanted to walk it, and for a purpose. Sexual violence has a lifelong, complex and invisible impact which affects all aspects of life. Those affected often need lots of support to rebuild; routes to justice are difficult and survivors' lives can go in different directions than planned. RASASC is a fantastic charity providing sensitive specialist support. I know this cause will keep me going in moments of exhaustion. If anyone would be willing to donate, I'm so grateful.”
Have you ever done anything like this before?
“No, I should have thought this through! But I think I can do it and preparations are well on their way. Once I land in Porto on 17th September, I'll start walking an average of 21km each day, staying in walkers' hostels each night, until I reach Santiago de Compostela 13 days later.”
How are you finding training?
“I am walking lots and lots with my backpack. I’m taking any excuse to walk - including three hour walks home from work! My muscles are sore as I write this, but I've increased to walking 100km a week. Once I start, I'll walk 150km a week so I’ve got a bit further to go. It's quite a challenge to fit this in around work, and also during the recent heatwaves, but it's been a great goal and I'm on track.”
Will you have anyone walking with you and/or supporting you during the walk?
“I’m walking part of the Camino Portuguese which is a traditional Pilgrimage route from Portugal to Spain, so there will be many others walking in the same direction for many different reasons and purposes. I look forward to meeting them and hearing their own reasons for walking.”
