Government announce new measures for safety of women and girls
The Government has added new measures aimed at keeping women and girls safer, to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill.
The changes include more time for victims of domestic abuse to make a report and making a specific offence for taking non-consensual photographs or videos of breastfeeding mothers, which is to be punishable by up to two years in prison.
The change in law aims to protect mums from being harassed no matter where they choose to breastfeed.
The measures follow on from amendments in December, which clarified domestic abuse and sexual offences as serious violent crimes that public bodies have a legal duty to work together to prevent. This means domestic abuse and sexual offences are to be treated as seriously as knife crime and homicide.
