Thank you to our trustees

A huge thank you to all of our hardworking trustees this Trustees' Week,

Our trustees volunteer their time, knowledge and expertise to support and expand our work with survivors of rape and sexual abuse across Surrey.

What does a trustee do?

Trustees are volunteers who offer their time and knowledge, sharing responsibility for governing a charity and directing how it is managed and run.

They can offer support in terms of connections, sharing and endorsing the charity’s work in articles and posts as well as attending board meetings and overseeing decision-making.

Charity trustees have six main functions:

  • Ensuring the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit.
  • Complying with the charity's governing document and the law.
  • Acting in the charity's best interests.
  • Managing charity resources responsibly.
  • Acting with reasonable care and skill.
  • Ensuring the charity is accountable.

Meet our trustees!

At RASASC Guildford, we currently have seven trustees who bring a variety of skills to our board:

Simon White is our Chair, responsible for convening the board and overseeing its function. Simon is a chartered accountant with 35 years’ experience in the oil industry.

Caroline Deane worked as a palliative and frailty care nurse in the NHS for many years, before taking on her current role at a hospice in Cambridge.

Susan Forda is a trained pharmacist, who worked for Eli Lilly for 26 years, becoming Managing Director of the Eli Lilly UK Research and Development site. Susan was previously a trustee of the Eli Lilly Pension Fund.

Helen Price has been involved with RASASC for over 20 years, volunteering as a speaker, helping with fundraising events, a helpline volunteer, a counsellor and most recently providing our family support service.

Kevin Young is our Treasurer. Kevin is a retired Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years’ experience in senior finance roles. He is using his skills to support local charities.

Jane Anderson was a policy advisor in number of government departments including the Home Office and Ministry of Justice. From 2013-2019, she was Assistant Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey.

Sian Felstead is an experienced Programme Manager with over 20 years experience in delivering financial services transformation projects across both IT and business across the world.

We are so grateful to all our trustees for their ongoing support. Read more about all of them on our Trustees page.

We’re pleased with the news that children who have experienced child sexual abuse and exploitation are now to be considered in the new Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy, as announced by MP Jess Phillips. The new VAWG strategy was due to be published in the summer, but has now been pushed back towards the end of 2025. We will have to wait until the final strategy is released to see the impact it will have for those concerned. RASASC was part of a large contingent of signatories on an open letter to the Home Secretary, requesting that victims of child sexual abuse and exploitation be included within the VAWG strategy. We are delighted that this action has had a positive impact. Following several delays and a degree of mystery surrounding what will be in the final version, we sincerely hope that the completed VAWG strategy has heeded the advice and recommendations from experts, to deliver an effective and fully resourced plan of action.
