RASASC Helpline closing on 12 December
Our helpline will be closing on Thursday, 12 December 2024
At RASASC Guildford we are dedicated to providing confidential, free support to all survivors of sexual harm across Surrey. As part of this, we regularly review our services to ensure they are meeting the needs of our clients.
We looked at our helpline service and found that calls had been steadily reducing, and the service wasn’t being fully used. This told us we weren’t providing a service that our clients needed.
As a result, we will be winding down our helpline service on 12 December 2024, and we have also closed our online live chat. In its place we will be launching a Support Line in February 2025 for those on our counselling waiting list, enabling us to retain the knowledge and skills of our highly valued helpline volunteers.
The new Support Line will offer focussed, pro-active support for those on our counselling waiting list who have opted into the service. To access the Support Line service, you will have already referred into our adult counselling service.
To find out more about our Support Line service, please visit our FAQs page.
For other support services covering a range of issues, our Linktree
has details of several local and national services you may be useful.
If you need a telephone helpline, please call the national helpline operated by Rape Crisis on 0808 500 2222, it’s open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We’re pleased with the news that children who have experienced child sexual abuse and exploitation are now to be considered in the new Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy, as announced by MP Jess Phillips. The new VAWG strategy was due to be published in the summer, but has now been pushed back towards the end of 2025. We will have to wait until the final strategy is released to see the impact it will have for those concerned. RASASC was part of a large contingent of signatories on an open letter to the Home Secretary, requesting that victims of child sexual abuse and exploitation be included within the VAWG strategy. We are delighted that this action has had a positive impact. Following several delays and a degree of mystery surrounding what will be in the final version, we sincerely hope that the completed VAWG strategy has heeded the advice and recommendations from experts, to deliver an effective and fully resourced plan of action.
