ISVA Service

Client Support Agreement

The role of your Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) is to ensure you have all the information and support you need. ISVAs are accredited and provide a professional service. ISVAs are independent of the police.

Your details

Your ISVA will:

  • Support you regardless of whether you report the crime or not.
  • Ensure your rights are upheld under the Victim’s Code
  • Identify your needs following the initial contact.
  • Act as your main point of contact, coordinating your wrap around support (which may include referrals to other services, with your consent)
  • Support you to navigate the criminal justice system (if you choose to report the crime)
  • Liaise and advocate with the police and other agencies on your behalf.
  • Provide non-judgemental, emotional support.  Please Note: ISVA’s are not trained counsellors, if counselling is required, they will help you access this through other agencies.
  • Agree an exit plan with you for when your support needs have been met.

Contact and appointments

  • You and your ISVA will agree the frequency and method of contact.(telephone, text, WhatsApp, email or face to face visits)
  • Your appointments will be for an hour. You do not have to use the full hour.  If you feel you have what you need, then the appointment can be ended early.
  • There may be times when either you, or your ISVA is unable to make a pre-arranged appointment.  We will endeavour to minimise this and give you advanced warning.  Please try to do the same and let us know as soon as possible if you can't make an appointment.
  • If you have arranged a meeting away from the office your ISVA will be in touch the day before to confirm the appointment. If confirmation is not received, then the ISVA will assume that you are unable to make it and will not leave the office.
  • If you attend your meeting while under the influence of drink or recreational drugs the meeting will not continue and your ISVA will make arrangements to see you on another day.
  • We will keep in touch with you at the agreed times. It is important you let us know if your contact details change, as if we are unable to contact you after three attempts, we will make no further attempts to contact you, but please be back in touch when the time is right for you.

Regulatory and ethical compliance

Your information will normally only be shared when RASASC has permission to do so and where this is relevant to any support, we have agreed with you.

There are exceptional circumstances where we may have to disclose your information without your permission. These are:

  • If we believe that either you or someone else is at risk of significant harm (ISVA’s have a duty to report any issues relating to child protection or adult safeguarding)
  • If you mention something about your evidence that you have not told the police, then your ISVA may need to share this information with them.

ISVA’s must adhere to strict professional boundaries and will never contact you through social media or out of the working role. Should they meet you in the community (other than a pre-arranged working appointment) they will only respond if you acknowledge them first. They will not engage in conversation about your case or personal information. Please do not be offended, this is for your protection, welfare, and confidentiality.

I have discussed this agreement with my ISVA, and we both agree to our responsibilities within this partnership.
