Talks & Displays

Talks and exhibition displays are part of our on-going work to raise public awareness of rape and sexual abuse.

People are afraid to discuss "it", but "it" typically affects one in four of us.  Why do people not talk about it?  Shame and embarassment are the main factors, or believing it doesn't happen.

As they say, "Don't stick your head in the sand".  It might have, or might be happening now, to someone in your family, at work or a friend.

Stranger rape in a dark alleys is not so common, but what is more common is rape and sexual abuse by an acquaintance, work colleague, trusted person or family member.  If you are a parent, trust your instincts if you are worried.

Do invite us to your place of work, study or social club.  We have successfully visited Rotary Clubs, Women's Groups, schools, health fairs, companies, conferences, housing departments,  Police, Samaritans, colleges, prisons, witness service, women's refuge, Zonta International, Soroptomists and voluntary associations.

We are happy to go to team meetings, management meetings, AGMs, small groups, large groups and conferences.

Talks cover:

  • Our history
  • The need
  • Types of survivors
  • Myths
  • The services we offer
  • A survivor's journey
  • Why different survivors and their partner or family may need different types of support at different times as they recover.
  • The side effects and healing journey
  • What to say and what not to say, to reduce re-trauma.
  • Why do people wait so long to report.

If you are interested in finding out when the next one is, or arranging one for your group, please phone or email the office.

Special Workshops and Training Days

If you are interested in a Special Workshop or Training Day (or half-day) for your group, please do contact the office.  Half or whole days, 10am-4pm, £500-£1,000.  A minimum of 3 months advance notice.  We can adapt the day to suit your requirements.

We have held these in the past in Guildford on a Saturday or Sunday at our venue.  Or, during the week at your venue.  We are happy for different groups to organise themselves into a larger group to join together for a days training.  Maximum group size at our venue is 20-25 people.

Company A: “I’m shocked that it happens so much.”

Group B: “It’s all news to me and it has opened my eyes.”

Group C: “Thanks - A good day with useful information.”

College D: “I understand now just why it is that they're not called victims but survivors.”

Guildford Rotary Club: “I think I can safely say that only very few of us had any real knowledge of your charity and the excellent work that you do. Most members were indeed quite amazed as to the content, particularly when they heard the statistics that you quoted of the number and type of calls that you receive. As a result of your talk we now know a great deal more and respect immensely the fantastic support that you give your callers.”
